The Old Mill Section of the Deschutes River in Bend, Oregon.  The most popular place to paddle in town is Riverbend Park which is the green circle closest to the center of the map.  You can paddle to the upstream rapids but they prevent any further progress up the river.  You can also paddle down towards the spillway at Colorado Ave.  You cannot paddle through the spillway.  We recommend turning around well before you get near the dam.  There is a portage to get out on the left side of the river as you approach it, but please use EXTREME CAUTION and do not paddle in front of the spillway.  There is a new project that starts in the Fall of 2014 to replace the spillway/dam with a new whitewater park.  Estimated completion is late Summer 2015.  There are 4 bridges on this section of river.  The current funnels at these bridges and the current is a bit stronger that other parts of the river.  Even beginner paddlers can get past these “uphill climbs”.  A faster cadence paddle stroke is the best way to get past the bridges.

Please follow all required safety laws and always use common sense on the river.  Every paddler is responsible for their own safety.  Underwater hazards do exist.
